Open Funding

  • Open Funding helps users and customers get what they need from highly competent developers; in virtual teams across the globe if needed
  • Open Funding helps users and customers share cost if budgets are limited
  • Open Funding helps partners find funding for developing extensions and other desired projects
  • Open Funding helps eZ find funding for some of its core development

Common Open funding scenarios

1. Customer needs

Some examples include:

  • A customer wants a specific piece of functionality that could be of general interest.
  • A customer finds the price of the contract too expensive.
  • A customer is willing to help fund a part of what is needed and to wait for joint funding from others.

The price can be reduced by having others contribute funding - thereby helping to close the contract.

2. Community-generated activity

Discussions, contributions and shared ideas can produce descriptions and specifications about projects that need funding (although sometimes the specifications are hard to produce when there is uncertainty as to whether or not the project will receive full funding).

The place for the formation of such projects is http://projects.ez.no.

3. Market needs and innovation

Some examples include:

  • Someone believes there is an opportunity in the marketplace involving eZ Publish.
  • Someone has been discussing an innovative idea with business contacts, other partners or the eZ crew.

4. Improvements to existing extensions

Some examples include:

  • Someone has found a suitable extension that is somewhat lacking in functionality.
  • Someone is using an extension but would, for some reason, like it to be rewritten.

5. Any other type of effort (not just software) requiring financial backing

Some examples include:

  • translation of books
  • events that need sponsoring
  • community websites
